Blurring boundaries

  • 500-backed robotics company OhmniLabs partnered Institute for the Future (IFTF) to leverage their Ohmni Telepresence Robot to enhance the accessibility of IFTF’s in-person events and open them up to a wider audience.
  • OhmniLabs robots offer a unique telepresence experience, allowing remote attendees to engage in real-time discussions, interact with speakers and participants, and immerse themselves in the event as if they would physically present.
  • “We’re thrilled to partner with IFTF in bringing our Ohmni Telepresence Robots to their events,” shared Co-founder & CEO Dr. Thuc Vu. “Enabling remote attendees to actively participate in IFTF’s forward-thinking discussions aligns perfectly with our mission to connect people across distances.”

Mall or maze?

  • Southeast Asia is home to some of the largest malls in the world. So, it’s no wonder people get lost! This eats into the precious time of Grab’s driver-partners who aim to  pick up deliveries efficiently.
  • To help them find their way, the 500-backed superapp team developed Indoor Maps. They worked with over 40 malls in six countries across the region to digitize each mall’s blueprint and connect them to Grab’s existing services.
  • Some popular malls they currently cover are KLCC and Pavillion in Malaysia, Jurong Point in Singapore, Central Mall Ladprao in Thailand, and UP Town Center in the Philippines.
  • Driver-partners get a turn-by-turn route mapped out for them, with Indoor Maps instructing them to turn at specific stores.
  • The result? Faster walking times and faster deliveries, with driver-partners spending up to 20.4% less time looking for a restaurant compared to those who didn’t.
  • Next up, the team will be rolling out Indoor Maps for wet markets in Malaysia. They also hope to expand their coverage to more malls and retail complexes across the region.
