Shopping sustainably

  • “Make secondhand the first choice” – that’s the mantra of 500-backed Carousell’s Siu Rui Quek.
  • He shares that he saw the adoption of the startup’s recommerce model ramp up over the pandemic, whether to “make ends meet, to be able to afford what they need, to live more sustainably, or simply to share their passions”.
  • To strengthen its foothold, Carousell acquired online classified marketplaces Mudah.my in Malaysia, Cho Tot in Vietnam, and OneKyat in Myanmar. Today, the group has a presence in eight markets, including Australia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. In Singapore, one in three people are users of the app.
