New Life for Old Goods

  • Does buying secondhand products really make a difference for our planet? Here’s research that proves it does.
  • The second edition of 500-backed Carousell Group’s Circular Economy Impact Report revealed that users across Carousell, Laku6, Mudah.my, and REFASH helped save the equivalent of 153,141 tonnes of CO₂e — comparable to the impact of planting 9 million trees, which is 1.3x Singapore’s total tree count.
  • Every secondhand item bought saves around 14kg of carbon emissions, or about the carbon footprint of producing 22 plastic bottles.
  • Choosing secondhand has also prevented the production of 76 million kilograms of plastic waste — enough to fill 53 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
  • Carousell’s AI-powered tools, like smarter search, auto-filled listings, and personalized recommendations, make sustainable shopping and selling faster, easier, and more fun than ever.
  • “The things we no longer need can still hold value for someone else. Passing these on makes more possible for everyone: sellers recoup part of their spending, buyers get what they need at an affordable price, and products gain a second life. Every item passed on is a step forward—for our planet and for future generations,” shared Co-founders Siu Rui Quek, Marcus Tan, and Lucas Ngoo.
