App-solutely Sustainable

  • Operating in over 800 cities across 8 Southeast Asian countries, 500-backed superapp Grab has been creating inclusive earning opportunities and enabling social and economic mobility at scale, while staying true to their commitment towards a carbon neutral and zero waste platform by 2040.
  • “Today, Grab operates the largest ride-hailing electric vehicle fleets in both Thailand and Indonesia, with over 10,000 EVs in each market. These vehicles reduce emissions while helping our partners better manage their operational costs,” shared Co-founder, Group CEO & Chairman Anthony Tan.
  • Driver-partner Tanawut Pongsorn, who made the switch from a petrol bike to an electric motorcycle 2 years ago through Grab’s EV rental programme, has saved over 50% on operational costs. “Fuel prices used to stress me out,” he said. “Now, I can focus on earning and saving more for my family.”
  • Environmental sustainability is also built into the user experience — since 2021, Grab users have helped plant more than 1.2 million trees across the region through the in-app Green Programme.
  • What’s more, over 936,000 tonnes of CO₂e has been avoided through nature-based carbon credits — that’s equivalent to removing nearly 200,000 petrol cars from the road for a year!
  • Through the in-app ‘Cutlery Opt-Out’ feature, food packaging waste, and plastic recycling initiatives, more than 8,385 tonnes of waste has been reduced or recycled.
