- Personal mobility devices (PMD) have had a bumpy ride in Southeast Asia. Just ask Zachary Wang, Co-founder & CEO of 500-backed Neuron Mobility.
- In 2016, the company launched the world’s first docked e-scooter sharing system in Singapore, but has since ceased operations on their home ground due to regulatory roadblocks.
- But Zachary is not easily fazed. The company went on to become a leading micromobility solutions provider in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
- Neuron Mobility develops and builds their own e-scooters, allowing for agile iteration according to different city regulations.
- “Bringing this new mode of transport into cities requires a lot of education with the public and also making sure we are a responsible operator providing a service that is as safe as possible,” he explained, adding that Neuron works closely with local city councils to enable the seamless integration of vehicles into everyday lives.
- With Singapore’s rising interest in efficient and sustainable urban mobility, he is optimistic about Neuron’s re-entry. “Hopefully, we can gain more social acceptance that will allow e-scooters to become a major force in connecting the first- and last-mile of many cities,” he shared.
