Opening new possibilities
- Co-founder & CEO of 500-backed superapp Grab Anthony Tan said that generative AI is a priority for 2024. The company began investing in AI as early as 2019, when they announced a US$150M budget for AI research.
- Now, the team and OpenAI are collaborating to build and deploy AI solutions for Grab’s ecosystem, in a partnership they share is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
- Together, they will develop tools for Grab users and pilot ChatGPT Enterprise for the company’s employees.
- Three immediate focus areas will be accessibility, customer service, and mapping; for instance, AI-powered text and voice functions that aim to help visually-impaired and elderly users who may struggle with Grab’s normal interface.
- Grab is also developing customer service chatbots that resolve issues more effectively, while further automating and increasing the quality of GrabMaps’ data extraction.
