Fun at the fingertips
- Founder & CEO Cristobal Viedma’s sister asked him to help his two-year-old niece learn English. A gamer with a computer science background, he noticed something. “There are a billion kids worldwide, with half of them already having access to mobile devices,” he shared. “But it was all video based.”
- Wanting to move away from passive experiences, he started building games for his niece. And it snowballed from there. Today, 500-backed edtech platform Lingokids has become the No. 1 app for preschoolers, reaching more than 78 million families worldwide.
- The app’s Playlearning approach offers more than 1,600 learning activities, from interactive games to videos to songs across different formats. A parent’s portal provides weekly reports, curriculum overviews, activity timeline, as well as advice and tips for parents’ everyday lives through its Parents Community.
- The platform features a wide array of subjects and skills, from traditional science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), art, and music to modern life skills like emotional learning and citizenship, catering to the holistic development of young minds.
- Redesigning content and curriculum, introducing neurodiverse education categories, moving to a freemium model, doubling down on audio content, as well as strategic partnerships with Apple and Amazon have led to a transformative year for the team.
- The Lingokids team is 130 members strong and profitable. Their user base has had a 350% year-over-year increase, and 3x year-over-year growth of monthly active users. More impressively, growth has been organic.
- Cristobal believes that the platform will reach 100 million families. The company is exploring how AI can enable its teams to be more efficient at tasks like localization and voiceovers.
- “We want to continue on this path, growing around the world,” he shared. “There is still plenty of room for us to grow.”
