App-etite for shrimps

  • It’s hard to believe we met Liris 4 years ago when 500 Global led JALA’s seed funding round.
  • A team that’s passionate about digitalizing the shrimp industry, 500-backed aquatech company JALA just raised US$13.1M in Series A funding led by Intudo Ventures.
  • The team offers an app to help shrimp farmers to improve the economics of shrimp farming, and contribute to environmental sustainability.
  • How does it work? A suite of advanced technology services are offered to farmers, including in-depth aquaculture analysis built off real-time data and connected equipment, as well as access to farm assistance, farm financing, high quality supplies and inputs, and marketplace services to bring harvest to market.
  • Farmers can then make well-informed decisions promptly. Through JALA’s farm credit scoring service, farmers are also able to prove their creditworthiness and gain access to affordable financing options.
  • “Paving the way to a sustainable future for Indonesia’s shrimp industry is at the heart of JALA’s mission,” shared Liris Maduningtyas, Co-founder & CEO.
  • “This funding will enable us to bring our end-to-end shrimp farming solution to remote areas in Indonesia and equip local farmers with the technological and financial support they need in advancing the country’s shrimp production,” she added.
  • The team offers harvest access services to farmers of all sizes to bring their product to market. This helps in ensuring that farmers receive prompt and fair payment for their produce.
  • Trusted by over 20,000 users, JALA has made a significant impact in the shrimp industry. The app has been used to monitor shrimp across more than 35,300 ponds, aiding farmers in larger harvests.
  • In the future, the app will feature more in-depth predictions for cultivation performance, water quality, shrimp disease prediction, and automation in data inputs such as shrimp weight data and feed data.
  • Congratulations to the JALA team!
