Recommerce redefined

  • To build a more intuitive ‘eCommerce-like’ experience for buyers and sellers, 500-backed recommerce platform Carousell is expanding its range of payment, delivery and dispute resolution services under ‘Buyer Protection’.
  • Buyer Protection is a new and improved version of Carousell Protection (phased out in July 2023). Apart from offering a variety of payment and delivery options, the updated service shields sellers by stepping in to resolve disputes based on delivery proof and item descriptions.
  • Payment: Carousell users transacting outside the platform are often more exposed to scams and phishing attacks. Today, in addition to PayNow, PayLah, credit cards, and Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) through Atome, users will soon have more BNPL options directly on the platform. Payments are also held by Carousell until the buyer confirms the product has been received. If the product is defective or unreceived by the buyer, the payment is refunded “no questions asked”, according to Vishal Salunkhe, Carousell’s Vice President and Head of Goods.
  • Delivery: Buyers and sellers can now choose to use Carousell’s official delivery partners like J&T Express via the app for door-to-door deliveries with exclusive rates.
  • Dispute Resolution: Carousell helps resolve any disputes by reviewing data such as item descriptions and delivery proof. A full refund will be given to the buyer for items that fulfill the “significantly not-as-described” policy, and sellers are protected via Carousell’s “abusive buyer policy”.
  • “The ultimate goal is to provide a wide range of payment and delivery options, creating an ‘ecommerce-like’ experience on the platform,” Vishal says.
