Taking the road less traveled

  • Singapore may not be the first country that comes to mind for spacetech, but innovative homegrown startups have been breaking boundaries, and one of them is 500-backed superfast internet company Transcelestial.
  • Despite not having the history or resources of countries such as the US, Russia, India, and China, Singapore-based Co-founder & CEO Rohit Jha is optimistic, sharing that Singapore has a highly technical workforce and is great at importing, retaining, and upskilling talent.
  • Investors are taking notice too. The team raised US$10M in February for their proprietary wireless laser communications technology, and the sky’s the limit — literally! They aim to develop a constellation of small satellites positioned in low Earth orbit, allowing its laser network to beam not only across cities, but also upwards to connect continents.
  • Transcelestial’s cost- and resource-effective shoebox-sized device creates a wireless distribution network between buildings, traditional cell towers, street-level poles, and other physical infrastructure to enable ultra-fast internet.
