The scoop on scoots
- E-scooters improve urban accessibility and reduce carbon emissions, but here’s an insight about its riders you may not be aware of — research by 500-backed micromobility company Neuron Mobility found that 5% of their users around the world have a disability or mobility impairment. Not only that, 22% said that e-scooters helped them make trips they would not otherwise have made!
- They were more reliant on e-scooter than the average riders for journeys like running errands, commuting, going to appointments, connecting to public transport, and for leisure or recreation.
- This highlights the importance of e-scooters in providing a convenient and reliable transport option for individuals who may sometimes face barriers to mobility.
- Armed with this insight, the team will be launching a focus group for riders with mobility issues to make the service better and easier for them to use.
- The new initiative complements their efforts including partnerships with road safety and disability advocacy groups, and their global equity and accessibility program Neuron Access, which offers heavily discounted passes for riders currently enrolled in an applicable disability or government support program.
