Delivering better decisions
- Did you know that freight contributes to around 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions? And not just that, this number is expected to double by 2050 from increased consumer demand?
- That said, international shopping (and shipping) is necessary and here to stay. So, how can we make it more sustainable? 500-backed logistics company Cargobase partnered with Searoutes to offer its proprietary eco-calculator to all their users.
- The calculator computes the carbon footprint of a container in its journey. With this new feature, shippers can make more informed decisions using environmental impact data, price, transit time, and freight mode when choosing a logistics service provider.
- What’s more, data on carbon emissions can also be included in user reports.
- “Providing our customers with visibility into their CO2 emissions is an important first step to create awareness and eventually help them reduce their environmental impact”, said CEO Wiebe Helder.
- CSO Arnout Wagenaar added, “There is an urgent collective need for the industry to forge a cleaner future, and we hope that many small actions together, can generate a huge impact. Cargobase is helping its customers to contribute their part.”
