Doubling down to scale up

  • Swimming in new waters isn’t always easy. Fortunately, 500-backed Indonesian aquatech company eFishery is already familiar with the U.S., where the team plans to ramp up exports to significantly.
  • Co-founder & CEO Gibran Huzaifah shared that almost 80% of shrimps currently exported by eFishery farmers are to the U.S., and countries such as China, Japan, and Korea will be included as well.
  • That’s not all — the team has lined up an array of new products this year. Currently, the company offers a smart feeding solution powered by machine learning and a pay-later program to help farmers scale their businesses, among others.
  • Next, they plan to improve their feeder service and solve problems such as shrimp disease. Gibran revealed that the company is also exploring other markets outside of Indonesia to offer its technology to farmers elsewhere.
  • eFishery’s numbers speak for themselves. The company serves nearly 100,000 farmers who work across 270,000 ponds, selling up to 12,000 tonnes of fish a month. Produce is exported to China, Japan, Korea, and several countries in the Middle East.
  • Amid their plans to scale up, the company remains down-to-earth. “In terms of our mission, it remains the same from 10 years ago and will be the same for the next 20 to 50 years. Nothing will change until we resolve the food and hunger problem,” Gibran said.
