Hitch a ride into space
- Heard of ridesharing? That little arrangement where you book a car ride through an app, but you don’t get it all to yourself like a cab? What about ridesharing…in space?
- 500-backed Australian rocket company Gilmour Space Technologies announced they will be launching a dedicated rideshare mission into low earth orbit (LEO) in late 2024.
- Before you get too excited, this is one ride humans can’t hitch, but the idea remains the same. The Caravan-1 mission will carry customer payloads such as microsatellites and other small spacecraft.
- Dubbed “Australia’s first caravan to space”, Adam Gilmour, Co-founder & CEO said, “This mission will provide affordable access to new space customers looking to launch into a mid-inclination orbit at the end of 2024.”
- “The next few years are going to be a very exciting time for the global space industry, and missions like this will allow us to support the growth of new satellite and in-orbit technologies that could benefit humanity on Earth, in space, and beyond,” he added.
