{"id":165,"date":"2020-12-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/markupbackup.wordpress.com\/2021\/07\/21\/durians-daily-142-this-startup-is-helping-bring-fans-back-to-premier-league-games-customers\/"},"modified":"2021-07-28T05:22:32","modified_gmt":"2021-07-28T05:22:32","slug":"durians-daily-142-this-startup-is-helping-bring-fans-back-to-premier-league-games-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailymarkup.com\/?p=165","title":{"rendered":"Daily Markup #142: This startup is helping bring fans back to Premier League games; \u201cCustomers\u2019\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A cheer for football fans<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Premier League clubs Arsenal and Tottenham said they will be holding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-gb\/sport\/premier-league\/bring-back-the-fans-arsenal-and-tottenham-bid-to-stage-pilot-events-for-larger-crowds\/ar-BB1blCfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018pilot events\u2019<\/a> to bring up to 4,000 fans back to their games safely, a move made possible by 500-backed digital health company <a href=\"https:\/\/prenetics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prenetics<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-width=\"830\" data-height=\"467\" src=\"https:\/\/dailymarkup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_60f7d9aa7a3ae.png\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: ITV\u00a0Hub<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/sport\/uk-sport\/18901331.arsenal-welcome-fans-back-premier-league-stadium-nine-month-absence\/#:~:text=8%20mins%20ago-,Arsenal%20to%20welcome%20fans%20back%20to,stadium%20after%20nine%2Dmonth%20absence&amp;text=Arsenal%20will%20be%20the%20first,against%20Rapid%20Vienna%20next%20Thursday.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">9 months<\/a> in which fans could not enter the stadium, the United Kingdom government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/sport\/football\/football-fans-stadiums-tier-1-2-b77224.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that it will allow outdoor spectator sports in certain areas when the national lockdown ends.<\/li>\n<li>Players and staff are currently required to take part in a mass testing program to be declared free of Covid-19. Prenetics\u2019 rapid testing kit can return results within 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>As part of this partnership, the Premier League has access to the startup\u2019s digital health passport, which links testing history to an individual\u2019s mobile phone.<\/li>\n<li>This technology will also be available for fans, free of charge.<\/li>\n<li>Avi Lasarow, CEO of Prenetics, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/sport\/football\/premier-league-health-passports-stadiums-covid-testing-a4544521.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">believes<\/a> \u201can important step in getting fans back into venues is for point of care testing to take place, which would enable quicker results and elevate the strain on laboratories, and for health passports to be utilised by fans.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cFor the foreseeable future, until there is a vaccine, it is almost de facto standard that having a test is going to be like putting your seatbelt on in a car,\u201d he added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A milestone for used cars<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>500-backed used car trading platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carsome.my\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carsome<\/a> welcomed its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carsome.my\/news\/item\/carsome-celebrates-100000th-seller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100,00th seller<\/a>, a milestone marked in its fifth year of operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"841\" src=\"https:\/\/dailymarkup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_60f7d9ab20197.png\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: Carsome<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The startup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carsome.my\/news\/item\/carsome-celebrates-100000th-seller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> this achievement is a \u201ctestament of customers\u2019 trust and confidence\u201d in the used car market that has been historically \u201cmarred with distrust, caused by a fragmented car-selling process and the lack of transparency\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOne of the biggest challenges in our early days was getting people to trust and use the then new-in-market service,\u201d shared co-founder and Group CEO Eric Cheng. \u201cI am so proud that more than 100,000 customers in Southeast Asia have entrusted us in selling their cars; we are definitely looking forward to our one-millionth seller, hopefully soon.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The startup currently operates in 50 cities in five Southeast Asian countries and plans to open more retail centres across the region.<\/li>\n<li>This year, Carsome launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carsome.my\/news\/item\/carsome-v-shaped-recovery-in-june-on-track-for-record\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two products<\/a> to \u201cimprove process and workflow efficiencies\u201d, namely CARpartner, a mobile app that \u201callows Carsome\u2019s partners to make car inspection appointments, check appointment statuses, and get estimated car values\u201d, and CARdealer (formerly known as CarsomeGO), a separate mobile app in Indonesia that \u201callows local used car dealers to bid for cars on-the-go, at their own comfort\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>According to Cheng, Carsome will \u201ccontinue to invest in the digitalization and upgrading of its products to enhance the speed and convenience of car transactions and \u201cwill also be venturing into the technical education sector in the coming months with an aspiration to upskill the technical workforce through accreditation.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Going \u2018K-razy\u2019 for K-pop<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>K-pop, short for Korean pop, enjoyed a <a href=\"https:\/\/k-popped.com\/2020\/07\/the-growing-influence-of-k-pop-on-popular-culture-in-southeast-asia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201chigh amount\u201d<\/a> of online viewership in Southeast Asia in 2019, with the region emerging as the genre\u2019s \u201cthird-biggest market\u201d after Japan and greater China.<\/li>\n<li>Leading contributors are Indonesia and Thailand with 2.62 billion and 2.15 billion views respectively, with the region showing a 60 percent growth in just two years.<\/li>\n<li>But just how devoted are K-pop fans? Can fandom be measured or quantified? 500-backed e-commerce aggregator <a href=\"https:\/\/iprice.my\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iPrice<\/a> did the <a href=\"https:\/\/iprice.ph\/trends\/insights\/how-much-money-do-kpop-fans-spend-on-their-idols\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research<\/a> by looking at how much money K-pop fans\u200a\u2014\u200aspecifically fans of BLACKPINK, TWICE, and BTS\u200a\u2014\u200aspend on their idols.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-width=\"1600\" data-height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/dailymarkup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_60f7d9ac51ee4.png\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: Bandwagon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>In the report, the startup measured three metrics: \u201chow much a K-pop superfan spends (on average) if he\/she bought at least one merchandise per shopping category, purchased all their idols\u2019 albums, and attended one concert a year\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Merchandise includes clothing, concert lightsticks, and phone cases, to name a few.<\/li>\n<li>Overall, fans of BTS\u200a\u2014\u200adubbed the BTS Army\u200a\u2014\u200amay have spent up to US$1,422, amounting to 15 music albums, 5 concerts, and numerous merchandise.
