Think BuzzFeed but catered to local audiences.<\/li>\n<li>Khmerload has almost 5.8 million followers on Facebook, while Myanmarload has nine million.<\/li>\n<li>With True Group\u2019s backing and its wide-spreading presence in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, Mediaload is poised to bring its brand of shareable content to more countries soon.<\/li>\n<li>Congrats on a successful round, Mediaload!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cycling with peace<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>500-backed bicycle insurer Laka has a different approach in protecting cyclists.<\/li>\n<li>Founded in 2017, it goes against conventional norms by using a community-approach to insurance. Based on the \u201ccollective\u201d, customers are charged a share of the cost of claims submitted in the previous month\u200a\u2014\u200aup to a capped fee. 80% of those premiums go towards paying for other customers\u2019 claims, and Laka said it then gets paid when the claim is settled.<\/li>\n<li>If there are no claims that month, customers don\u2019t get charged anything.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-width=\"1368\" data-height=\"912\" src=\"https:\/\/dailymarkup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_60f7daab6b740.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: Laka<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cInsurance should be a great thing, it should be a reassurance. This means we\u2019re incentivised to pay out with a reasonable and valid claim, and it rebuilds the insurance proposition around the customer,\u201d CTO and co-founder Ben Allen told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/tech\/bike-insurance-laka-startup-a4558581.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Evening Standard<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Laka\u2019s processes are all cloud-based, enabling the team to make adjustments or add features when needed. This was particularly useful during the pandemic when the company was able to deploy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/laka-champions-mental-health-with-recovery-insurance-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recovery<\/a>, a policy designed to support cyclists on and off the bike. Partnering with healthcare professionals, Laka aims to offer cyclists all they need to get back to full fitness if they\u2019re injured.<\/li>\n<li>Read Laka\u2019s full feature on the Evening Standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/tech\/bike-insurance-laka-startup-a4558581.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Adapt and innovate<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>500-backed Grab\u2019s ride-hailing business was severely affected when movement restriction orders were implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/li>\n<li>But the company adapted its tech stack to cope with the crisis.<\/li>\n<li>Russell Cohen, Grab\u2019s managing director of operations, told <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/09\/17\/ride-hailing-was-hit-hard-by-covid-19-grabs-russell-cohen-on-how-the-company-adapted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TechCrunch<\/a> the driver app has allowed switching between ride-hailing and on-demand delivery requests. According to Russell, more than 149,000 drivers began performing on-demand deliveries for the first time, with Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand seeing the most conversions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/dailymarkup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_60f7daabbd6da.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: CARRO Singapore<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>To accommodate the surge of entrepreneurs onboarding Grab\u2019s merchant platform, the company programmed a self-service feature to expedite the process.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThis is a massive sector of the Southeast Asian economy that effectively digitized within a matter of weeks,\u201d Russell added.<\/li>\n<li>Grab also counted on partnerships with local municipalities and governments in different countries to make deliveries more efficient.
